Hi all

My old computer died on May 11, and just today I finally got my new one up and running. But I'm having a problem with outlook.

When I got my first computer over six years ago, I set up two email addresses. Actually, I had a co-worker who was a real computer whiz set them up for me, and I asked him to make it so that when I go to send a new email I can shift tab to above the "to" line and type in the secondary email address. The program was set up with one of my addresses being the default, and if I wanted to have the recipient see my other address, I had to change it. But now with this new computer, I have no idea how to make the "from" line appear. I would also like there to be a BCC line,, but there is not.

If this makes any sense and anyone knows how I can accomplish this task, I sure would appreciate the help.

You need to install the Hotmail conector, or Outlook connector.
Give me this info and I'll finish explaining, because depending on the version of Outlook it will vary.
To get the Outlook conector, or whatever it is called at the minute just type that in to your search engine, or do it on Microsoft's site.
After you tell me the rest I'll get you set up completely if you don't after installing the connector.

Here is the link. I was lazy last night. Smile.
Don't let the name concern you. It will connect your Hotmail Gmail, and other business services and even Yahoo, if you have a pay account. Please let me know if you need more help.

Can you explain why I need to do this? The person who set it up for me on my old computer didn't have to do anything like that. I keep thinking it should be somewhere in the view settings within outlook but can't find it.

Because to use Hotmail you must have this tool withoutlook. The person setting up your computer might not have done it at first, but you probably got it installed in an update. The only way internet based email works now is with this tool. Don't install it and email doesn't work.
Last, it may have been installed with the install of your office. It is something that is sometimes ask for when you first open Outlook, but if this step is not done, than your internet based email doesn't work.
Give that page a read and it will explain it all.

But I'm using outlook, not hotmail. This makes no frigging sense to me.

But you want to use Hotmail and Gmail in Outlook right? Tell you want. You can't lose by installing it. If you disagree with what I suggest the program is under add and remove programs, so you can ditch it. You won't of course, because your email will work, but. Lol
Welcome to the new way dear.

Nope, I don't want to use hotmail or gmail.

As I said it doesn't matter what email you are using. Now if you are using another account, and if you'd say what your Outlook version is and also the email client you want to use, as I stated that help.
For example, if you are using Qwest.netmail, you'll need the server information. It will suggest something like this.
The SMPT server is.... Is it a secure server, or does it require secure log on...
I will post what I mean. If you have this information you put it in the blanks. The Microsoft tool howver does much of it for you many times, but you can do many manuallly.
Here is another suggestion. Call your ISP, if they are the people that provide your email. Ask them your settings for Outlook. These settings should also be online at the mail servers main page.
Outlook doesn't just do your setup for you. I use it daily, and really enjoy having my emaiil come to one place, and I have 2 accounts running as you want. It is really nice to send email from the account I want it to go, and receive email in one place, so I understand what you enjoyed before.
Again I'll post exactly what I mean by server settings and such, but I also promise you just reading that page will give you lots of help. Smile.
It won't bite now. Lol

LibraLady,
What mail client are you using, outlook, windows mail? if you're using outlook do you know if it's 2003, 2007, 2010? if you can give us this information, a solution would be much easier to give...
Thanks.

Okay this page talks about 2003 and it also talks about setting up a speciific email server, but this is what I am wanting you to see. Your server settings wiill be different, so the information you put in these sections will not be liike this one, unless I got lucky and pick your service. Smile.
If you do it this way you can avoid that old Microsoft stuff and not have it on your computer. Lol

Yes, she needs to say. I did ask her. Smile.

I set Outlook up all the time, so it works nice. I confess it made me smile when she just saiid no I don't like that old Microsoft and it wasn't that way before. Lol

Sounds to me like her accounts are already set up. She's not finding the button to change the to: account. Before one could shift tab back once from the to: field, and choose which address you want a message to come from. In 2010 and windows mail this is accomplished in a different manner.

Hi BigDogDaddy, you are exactly right about what I am trying to do. I just want there to be a from field so I can type in my secondary address when I don't want the default address to be used. I have outlook 2003.

Post 15 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 06-Jun-2012 15:06:48

I understand exactly about the things she's asking, but depending on if her mail is actually setup, than it would depend on the version of Outlook.
I am running 2010, so if I want to find my account to email from it I have to start an email then shift tab up to send from. Now in 2007 I had before the shortcut key Alt A I believe would bring up the account selection. 2003 its different again, so.
I find many things I really like about 2010, but stuff has been moved, so it was a learning process. I don't know the one I can say I liked best, and maybe there are key shortcuts I just haven't learned, because I've found a way around it, but it was different changing.

I should mention one more thing. I was told to hit control N as if I am about to send a new message and then go to tools and then alt V for view and arrow down to headers. Well, I didn't find anything that just said headers, but I did find a line that said "headers and footers unavailable." So if that is the heading I want, why is it unavailable, and how do I make it work. Again, this is Outlook 2003.

Ah I missed your post before I posted, so didn't see it. Now if I remember right it was alt A that allowed you to select accounts, otherwise I'm out. Lol

Wayne, that was a lot more information than I wanted. ANYWAY, thanks to you and others who tried to help me with this. I couldn't get any of the suggested ideas from anyone on here or elsewhere to work, so came up with a totally different solution. I set up an outlook express account under one of the names I want to use and then deleted that account from Microsoft Outlook. So, I get messages sent to regular outlook for one of my account names and to outlook express for the other account. It is working out well enough.

I'd love to see your computer. I'm sure I could get it working. Mine does exactly like you say. I tab up, can see the accounts and whatever. Mine setup that way on install, so.
You did what I'd have done found a way around it. Wonder if repairing it or reinstalling it would help? Smile. Yes, I know to much work, but it might help? Lol
